We’ve recently had several unplaced applicants contact us asking for updates on their application progress, so we thought we’d write a quick blog post to update everyone about what exactly is happening with your application!
It’s completely understandable that you want to finalize your summer camp job placement as soon as possible so that you can start bragging to your friends about your trip to Canada, book flights and arrange the rest of your travel plans. So here are a couple of things to keep in mind:
There’s loads of time still
It may feel like time is running out, but it really isn’t. Unlike the American summer camp job programs, our deadlines are a lot more relaxed. We’re even still accepting applications! We’re very fortunate that the Canadian system is much quicker and easier to secure work permits for international summer camp staff – you do not need to visit an embassy or have any lengthy interviews (your work permit will be provided on your arrival into Canada), so there is still loads of time for us to find you a placement!
Keep your options open
If you’ve been too restrictive with your preferences about what camp that you want to go to then you may find that you are going to miss out on potential placements. For example, consider working at a single gender summer camp, or at a religious camp or maybe you could expand your dates of availability? If you are too picky about the camp that you are willing to work at then you could miss out.
We haven’t forgotten you
If you haven’t been contacted recently with an update on your application progress then that doesn’t mean that we have forgotten about you! We are very well aware of all of the applicants that are in our system, and if we haven’t contacted you recently then it only means that we haven’t found the right summer camp for you yet. We are actively pursuing potential placements for you, and as soon as we have a good match then we’ll let you know!
If in doubt, get in touch!
The NYQUEST team is always happy to answer your questions about your placement process, so if you are really nervous or want to know what you can do to improve your chances of securing a placement then contact anyone at NYQUEST and we would be glad to advise you.
